The ‘90s rap hit “Baby Got Back” was elevated to high culture status last Friday when Sir Mix-A-Lot joined the Seattle Symphony to recreate his 1992 song with the orchestra.
The Seattle Symphony is currently hosting a Sonic Evolution series, which aims to re-imagine songs by Seattle-based musicians under the direction of DJ, composer and producer Gabriel Prokofiev.
Sir Mix-A-Lot, a Seattle rapper and producer, invited women in the audience to help him on stage by dancing. He promised he and the orchestra wouldn’t bite, “unless you want us to.”
Check out the video to hear what it sounds like to have drums, trumpets and makeshift instruments recreate everyone’s favorite dance anthem.
